A Room in Bangkok

Javier Olivera
Spain / 2025 / 0:20:00

Through the grainy, fleeting frames of Super 8 film reels, the filmmaker revisits a childhood trip to Asia, where her father’s business partner—a constant presence in their lives—captured a family's narrative through his lens. Haunted by a persistent suspicion of a long-forgotten night in a Bangkok hotel room, the narrator embarks on a journey of recollection, grappling with fragmentary memories, traumatic energies and power of oblivion..

A Winter Mirage

Dong Shen Shi
Guoju Wang
United Kingdom, China /2025 / 0:29:55

In Chinese, ‘golden-age’ and ‘mirage’ share the same sound. Amid the 2024 economic decoupling, a single mother struggling to keep accessories business afloat in Yiwu, China’s largest export hub, must come to terms with memories of her late father's orchid on the Winter Solstice and reclaim her opera job to fund her son's overseas study. It enters into a dialogue with the early styles of Tsai Ming-liang and Chantal Akerman.
