Chaweng Chaiyawan
Thailand / 2021 / 0:27:30

Suthit and Nonae a Lahu couple have struggled for their living in order to get a better opportunity in their lives. But the more they tried hard the more they were circle in the circuit of a powerful relationship.

Jury Declaration:

"Please see us" is a hurting and painful cinematic experience to the audiences, putting into relation a suppressed mistreated couple of the ethnic minority, living in the gray area along the borderline, with the transcending visual impact of a still-breathing slaughtered pig exposed to a legendary persistence of a visual sequence. Chaweng Chaiyawan creates a metaphor for humans life in risk, whose entrails are commonly indifference. In an uncompromised visual violence, he enhances facts often hidden, especially through the endless cases of abductions, into a vi
sualization and visibility.

Director Declaration:

I hope our film will help tell the story and reflect on the atrocious acts of power against marginalized people and lead to future discussions and solutions.

Jury Declaration:

Most people might knew beforehand the main theme of Bad Omen, it's quite simple and easy to grab. Nonetheless, it's always hard for the protagonist, no matter how things keep changing and challenging. This 18-minute film embodies an Afghan woman's whole struggling life with heartfelt complex details added because she's a widow. The film doesn't need more than limited spoken words and a few encounters within a day, it's strong enough to convince us how suffocating her life is.
